In the first tutorial we analysed the market and our competitors. Now it is time to ensure our own website is up to scratch, before we start promoting it.

We can use the tools introduced in the first section to analyse our own site as well as others, but we’ll be looking at new tools in this tutorial.

Search Engine Simulator

The search engine simulator is your own search engine to play with. First you enter the address of a website, and the crawler will visit the page and then visit all the pages it links to, then visit all the pages they link to and so on. After this is done, an efficient index is built that can be searched.

Unlike normal search engines, the Ignite SEO search engine will show you the point scores for the ranking results. You can try changing things around to improve your rankings in real search engines, bear in mind however that Ignite SEO uses a comparatively simple ranking algorithm and indexes a tiny fraction of the web.

Under “View Index” the tab you can view how a search engine stores data.

Under “View Web Graph” you can see how pages interlink. This can give useful insights, for example you may not wish to interlink your different websites too often as Google may see this as an attempt at manipulation.

Content Creation

With all the information you’ve gathered on competitors and markets you may now wish to add some content to your site. You can also now create content to post on other websites which links to your website, increasing your link popularity and so search rankings.
