Poodle – A simple emulation of search engine ranking factors
As a quick investigation of possible ranking factors a search engine may use, and the possible weightings attached to these factors, I created a spreadsheet which attaches rankings for search queries to a mini-corpus of 10 documents. Clearly this is just my own opinion, and comes from experience and reading patents and such.
Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with google, and pagerank is a trademark of google. This spreadsheet is just for informational use to help understanding the kinds of things a search engine may consider when ranking documents for a query. The factors and weightings are just some of my own guesses, for example Google’s ranking factors are said to number over 200 . Many of these ranking factors come from reading patents, papers and sites (I recommend seobythesea.com for more information). There are many reasons why something mentioned in a patent may never be used, and likewise why many factors will never reach patents. Poodle & Index sheet under the CC Attribution License.
